801 Day Iowa State 2024

Ames City Council Approves Increased Fines for Nuisance Parties on 801 Day

801 Day, a day of alcohol consumption and partying before the start of the Iowa State University school year, will see increased penalties this year.

On Monday, November 20-24, the Ames City Council approved an amendment to a city ordinance that will increase fines for nuisance parties on 801 Day.

WEB 801 Day, which falls on the Saturday before classes begin, is typically associated with excessive alcohol consumption and illegal parking. The new ordinance aims to deter such behavior and enhance public safety during the event.

The amended ordinance increases the fines for nuisance parties from $100 to $250 for the first offense, $350 for the second offense, and $500 for any subsequent offenses.

The City Council also introduced new draft ordinances that will further increase penalties during 801 Day. These ordinances will be considered for approval at a later date.
